Episode 1: An Interview with Harriet Miyagawa
No better way to start things off than to interview my mother. My mother Harriet Miyagawa was interned in the towns of Popoff, Bay Farm and New Denver until she came back to the Lower Mainland of BC to live in Vancouver. In this podcast we talk about her time in the internment camps, and what daily living was like.
Episode 2: An Interview with Steven Tsujirua
Steven Tsujiura played ice hockey in the WHL, AHL, Europe and Japan. While he stood 5’5” he was a major threat on the ice and was awarded the WHL Player of the year in 1980-81, WHL Most Sportsmanlike Player (1979–80 & 1980–81), and the AHL Fred T. Hunt Memorial Award (1985–86). Steven was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in 1981 but never got to play a game in the NHL. He later went on the play in Europe, and then the Japan National team for the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano. This podcast I get to talk with him about his career in ice hockey and flipping John Blum on ice.
About the Host
Matt - (Previous projects include: Finale Design, VancouverSlop, Breaking Bread Podcast, Sole Searching)
Matt - (Son of Harriet/Haruye) is a third generation Japanese Canadian who grew up going to Powell Street Festivals, mom's karaoke parties, and eating rice balls but never really affiliated himself with the Japanese culture til much later in life. "I am not sure where my love for Japanese culture started, perhaps it was when I first saw Harry Aoki in 21 JumpStreet or when I found out Transformers was actually a Japanese product or after watching Dragonball Z videos from Fujiya or seeing Japanese Bboys hold it down in Bboy Summit". Matt is now a lover of Japanese food, clothing, culture and now is excited about learning about Japanese City pop music.
